Halloween Blog

I recently came across these examples of vintage halloween cards.
These halloween cards kind of remind me of the valentines we used to hand out as kids. They weren't greeting cards as much as they were trading cards.
We handed out valentines to all of our friends. Actually, we handed them out to everyone in the class.
I've never really seen halloween cards like this before. It would be a cute idea to have the kids give their friends "Happy Halloween" or "Trick or Treat" halloween cards.
Halloween cards could have the traditional characters, skeletons, ghosts, zombies, witches, etc. They could also have the more modern characters like Buzz Lightyear, Jack Skellington, etc.
Of course we wouldn't have to let the kids have all the fun. Adults could give halloween cards too.
My wife and I recently had an interesting trip to Key West.
Now I have been to Key West dozens of times. Usually it's for an event like Hemingway Days or Fantasy Fest. Sometime the trip is just for a weekend of drinking at Irish Kevin's or Margaritaville.
So what made this trip so interesting? Well, we went for our Babymoon. For those that don't know, a Babymoon is a “last hurrah” before having a baby. Babymoons are generally more on the relaxing side for obvious reasons... no skiing, no water sports, no drinking, etc.
The no drinking part is what made Key West "Interesting". My wife didn't care if I drank but since she couldn't, we had to come up with entertainment ideas that didn't revolve around drunken debauchery.
Most the weekend revolved around eating, relaxing around the pool. and more eating. Not being content to just relax we looked for alternative entertainment ideas. That's when she ran across the Key West Ghost Tours idea.

Somebody's watching you!
So, you see a giant eye in the middle of a park... what would you think?
My first thought would be halloween decoration, or giant candy jaw breaker... or... nope, no or... I wouldn't have another guess.
Of course, my guess would be wrong.
This giant eye is a Chicago public art piece.
Standing 30 ft tall, this massive lifelike eyeball sculpture, known only as "Eye", was designed by Tony Tasset, an American multimedia artist and is located in Pritzker Park in Chicago.
If you are in Chicago check it out, but remember, eye am watching you!
I have to say I wouldn't normally consider Ice Cream as a halloween treat.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE ICE CREAM!
I just don't associat it with halloween in any form or fashion.
Ice Cream isn't going in the halloween bag. It's not something you would typically see at a halloween party or on someones desk.
Ice cream just isn't a halloween treat...or is it?
Well, the folks at Ben & Jerry's are doing their best to make sure you think of their ice cream... or at least their company during the halloween season.

Hungry for some Halloween Treats?
Try eating at the Retching Pumpkin Diner by Department 56.
I was looking for a nice Christmas Present for my wife last year and ran into the local Hallmark Card shop. As I looked around I ran into their Christmas Village section.
Looking at all of the choices, Department 56 has several Christmas Village Series themselves, I was a little overwhelmed. Not only was I picking out this present, but, as it was the first piece, I was essentially laying the foundation for our entire village.
Now most christmas villages are a little too traditional for my taste, but one piece they had really stood out.
The piece I liked was called Peppermint Pete's from Department 56. Peppermint Pete's is a whimsical village piece from the North Pole Series. It's lit and has a giant peppermint striped rotating wheel incorporated into it's roof. My wife loved it and I can't wait to pick the next piece for this Christmas.
So what about Halloween? Well, when I went to Dept 56 's website I discovered they have a Halloween Themed Village Series. They call it The Original Snow Village Halloween Series.

It's way to early to start planning my Halloween Horror Nights 2011 Orlando trip but it's never too early to start checking the rumor mill speculation about themes for this years haunted houses.
A quick search didn't reveal a whole lot of information except a few basic rumors;
Rumor: Halloween Horror Nights 2011 will be held at Universal Studios again.
